In 1989, Denver Bronco's quarterback John Elway, a member of the much-heralded quarterback class of 1983, led his underrated Denver team to the Super Bowl, only to suffer a humiliating defeat to the Washington Redskins in front of the whole world. Defensively the rugged belligerence of Neil Smith and Steve Atwater dictated a pass rush orientated defense that dominated all opposition.
